A Tapestry of Colour

The client has a wide border backed by a lovely old brick wall which runs the entire width of her garden, and which is visible from all the main rooms of her house. This border was completely overgrown and then cleared entirely ready for a brand-new planting scheme. We needed to create something which would have year-round interest and which would provide colour and height against the wall, which although beautiful in its own way, was very dominant. As the owner is a keen gardener, we opted for a tapestry effect in the border, filling it with her favourite plants, but keeping an overall colour scheme of soft pinks, purples and blues in mind. Phormium, cistus and euphorbia provide bulk and structure (plus gorgeous lime green bracts in the spring from the euphorbia wulfenii), while geraniums, iris, achillea and asters provide a rolling carpet of colour throughout the seasons.
